One of the most beautiful volcanoes in Costa Rica, cloud forests, a world-famous lake for windsurfing, and an incredibly diverse wildlife population are just part of what you'll find in this incredible area of Costa Rica. Probably the biggest attraction is its famous Arenal volcano. There are a couple of hiking trails available in the area that take you to the closest point to admire this magnificent colossal. Near the volcano is the largest lake in Costa Rica, Lake Arenal. In Lake Arenal you can practice windsurfing, kayaking, boating and fishing. Nearby you can take a horseback ride to La Fortuna Waterfalls, an impressive 70-meter (230-foot) waterfall where you can take a refreshing dip in its crystal clear waters. The thermal waters of the Tabacón River are another important attraction in the area where visitors can immerse themselves in its healing waters after a day of adventure in the area. Near Arenal, visitors can also experience canopy tours, whitewater rafting trips, a boat ride to the Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge, and the adventure of exploring the Venado Caverns.
